Penrose Trail
Penrose Trail, at the western side of Story, offers
easy access into the
Bighorn National Forest,
and accommodates the hiker, the hunter, or those that
just want to ride up on their 4-wheeler. Just five
minutes from 27 Hosburg Drive, this part of the Big Horn Mountains
boasts an abundance of wild game, including elk, deer,
moose, black bear, mountain lion, antelope, and many
other species just too numerous to mention. |

Big Horn Mountains & Bighorn National Forest The magnificent Big Horn
Mountains and massive
Bighorn National Forest are just minutes away. They
provide countless recreational opportunities including
fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, backpacking,
photography, wildlife viewing, skiing, snowboarding,
snowmobiling and sightseeing. |

Hunting
The Story, Wyoming region offers marvelous hunting
opportunities for trophy antelope, mule deer, whitetail deer,
moose, elk, black bear, mountain lion, and upland game birds. Outfitters in the
area offer guided hunts, or you can choose to go it on
your own. Hunting information is available at
local Chambers of Commerce and sporting goods stores.
27 Hosburg Drive is an excellent base
for the hunting enthusiast - just minutes away from
great hunting opportunities in the Bighorn National
Forest, many areas of State of Wyoming and Bureau of
Land Management land and private areas with the

Wildlife Viewing & Photography
The Story, Wyoming region is an especially beautiful
place when the wildflowers bloom in spring and during
the autumn foliage season. There are many loop tour
areas available and sightseeing opportunities are
endless. Wildlife including Pronghorn Antelope,
Whitetail Deer, Mule Deer, Moose, and Elk are plentiful
in the region. Photography opportunities are

Lake DeSmet
Located ten minutes from 27 Hosburg Drive off I-90, the lake
was named after Father Pierre Jean DeSmet. The
lake was discovered in 1851 and today boasts excellent
fishing and boating. It is the site of the annual
Buffalo, Wyoming Lion's Club Fishing Derby on Memorial
Day weekend. The lake is about five miles long and
more than one mile wide. The Lake Stop Resort at
Lake DeSmet rents fishing boats and sells groceries and
supplies for for fishing, camping and other recreational
activities. There are two public boat launching
areas at the lake. |

Fishing
Fishing opportunities are
countless in the Story, Wyoming area and in the region.
There are reservoirs, alpine streams and over 200 lakes
in the
Bighorn National Forest and the Cloud Peak
Wilderness Area. Guided fishing trips are also
available with local outfitters. Anglers enjoy ice
fishing at Lake DeSmet and other local lakes during the
winter months. Fish found in the area include Grayling,
and Rainbow, Brook, Brown, Cutthroat, Lake Trout and
Walleye. |

Hiking & Backpacking
The Story, Wyoming area provides a great starting place
for hiking and backpacking in the Big Horn Mountains and
Bighorn National Forest. Hikers and backpackers will
delight in the quiet seclusion of the Big Horn
Mountains. Enjoy a day hike along Penrose Trail just
five minutes from 27 Hosburg Drive. For those more
ambitious, there are miles of backcountry trails in the
Cloud Peak Wilderness Area. Tie on your sleeping bag
and fishing pole and enjoy a night under the stars.

Mountain areas have abundant wildlife
- Elk, Moose and Mule Deer are commonly seen near trails
systems. Spring and early summer mountain meadows are
decorated with brilliant white, yellow and blue
wildflowers. There are over 200 lakes and countess
streams in the Bighorn National Forest. Trout
fishing is abundant in the Bighorns, so you may want to
take a fishing rod on your mountain hike. Fishing

Skiing, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing,
Snowmobiling Cross
Country Skiing - There are many miles of groomed
trails in the Big Horn Mountains. Willow Park and Pole
Creek are two of the most popular cross country skiing
areas.
Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding - Big Horn
Mountain Resort, about 45 miles west of Buffalo, offers
excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding
opportunities. The resort is about a 1½ hour drive
from Story.
Snowmobiling - Over 130
miles of groomed trails make the Big Horn Mountains a
popular paradise for snowmobilers. Trail maps can be
obtained from the local Chambers of Commerce or local
sporting goods stores.

Horseback Riding
If you wish to explore on horseback, holding corrals and
ramps are available in such areas such as the Circle
Park and Hunter Corrals trailheads in the
Bighorn National Forest.
Several area outfitters, mountain lodges and guest
ranches provide horses for hourly, day, or overnight
trips. |

The Powder Horn Golf Community,
Big Horn, WY - The Powder Horn, just north of Story
near the town of Big Horn is just about 15-20 minutes
from 27 Hosburg Drive. The
centerpiece of The Powder Horn is the nationally
recognized 27-hole championship golf course. The
original eighteen holes opened in 1997, followed by the
addition of a new nine holes that opened in 2002. |
Noted for its
three distinct nines, The Powder Horn Golf Course will
challenge your shot making abilities and test your
putting stroke on the smooth bentgrass greens.
With five
sets of tees to choose from, the well manicured grounds
of the golf course are playable for golfers on any
level. The golf course offers many spectacular views and
every measure was taken to preserve the natural beauty
this land has to offer.

Sheridan Country Club, Sheridan,
WY - About 25 minutes from 27 Hosburg Drive.
Established in 1920, Sheridan Country Club is one of the
oldest private golf clubs in Wyoming. Soaring mountain
peaks and rolling hills provide a spectacular backdrop
for our recreational, social and community
activities. A nine-hole parkland style golf course is
at the center of the Sheridan Country Club experience.
The tree lined fairways, wildlife, two sets of tees,

Horseshoe Mountain Golf Club,
Dayton, WY - About 45 minutes drive from 27 Hosburg
Drive,
this course is located on a 7,000-acre thoroughbred
ranch and wildlife habitat. At the base of the Big Horn
Mountains, the scenery offers a "nature escape" with
wildlife (near the course, but not underfoot) and crisp
weather. This course has water hazards that come into
play on three holes and sand bunkers lurking near the
greens. The greens are average size with mild
undulation. The fairways are generous with ample landing
areas. |

Buffalo Golf Club, Buffalo, WY
- About 20 minutes from 27 Hosburg Srive. "4
Stars, Superb views of Big Horns are a given at Buffalo
Golf Club. A diamond in the rough, this hilly, old
mountain course is a really fun course that's in great
shape. They have "one of the most beautiful par 3's I've

Rodeos
The Sheridan and Johnson County Fairgrounds hosts
numerous events throughout the summer including the
Sheridan Wyo Rodeo, Johnson County Powder River Roundup
and the Johnson County Fair and Rodeo. Weekly local
rodeos are also held. The Sheridan Rodeo is a
Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA)Rodeo, and
in 1999, 2004, & 2007 was voted "Cowboy's Choice Rodeo
of The Year"! |
